Wordcaster Media and Public Relations was founded to provide a Business News Service in August 1990. Teresa and Gareth John, a husband and wife partnership, now successfully publicise any business, from horticulture to helicopters, and are very proud of the long term relationships they form with many of their clients who entrust them with privileged board room level information. This is due to the hands-on approach still favoured by their clients.
Recent years have shown that the team generates over £2 million worth of editorial coverage for their client base. this figure does not include the support they offer to regional charities and selected “new start” businesses that demonstrate a sustainable future.
Teresa John – The Media Communications Partner
Known as ‘the Boss’ or the ‘one who does the important bit’, Teresa left her Computer Support role with a national company in 1993 to manage the press release submissions and install and maintain a comprehensive media database which now holds over 50,000 contacts (and its constantly growing) within television, radio and national, regional and trade press.
Teresa not only ensures that the correct contact is reached in the most appropriate media, and at the right time for them to receive the News Releases, but also acts as a final proof reader who ensures that after many copy changes, the release news story still reads and flows to a high standard.
Gareth John – The One You Always See!
As a school leaver, Gareth worked the Bournemouth Department of Tourism and Publicity for 6 years before training as a Salesman for the Budget Rent-a-car franchise. Later his success selling for a recruitment agency led to being head-hunted by 2CR FM to run their recruitment advertising where he also wrote the scripts. He then became a Field Sales Exec before leaving the Radio Station to become Account Director for a new Advertising Agency. During his time with the agency, which specialised in TV and radio advertising, he became aware of the difference in sales that a good media profile could make to a business.
Believing that a large percentage of advertising budget spent by clients was a complete waste of money and that by adopting a dedicated and professional approach to PR activities, a business could enjoy constant publicity, he launched Wordcaster. With no false promises and with competitive fees, and not expecting clients to take out long contracts, Wordcaster’s fast, efficient, service led philosophy benefits businesses large and small from many sectors of commerce and industry.
“We have an excellent track record within the public transport sector, general aviation industry, horticulture, construction and retail industry, but as Consultants we don’t really need to have the expertise of our clients. We add the important ability to look from outside in which helps us gauge the public’s perception of their business as would a journalist.”
Did you know that Gareth publicised professional pantomimes for 4 Christmases which also included the role as Postman Pat’s minder? Oh yes he did!
He was retained by the Unique Group, then owned by Noel Edmonds, during the “house Party” years. No he did not model for the shape of Mr Blobby. He was thin in those days.
He managed to get Nigel Mansell to smile for a photo whilst publicising the F1 champ’s Ferrari Dealership.
Publicity launches for various new aircraft in the UK were successfully achieved. And the launch of a new airline!
He is one of the few consultants in Dorset who can claim to have gained a positive news story on the front page of The Times.
He realised that Richard Branson’s grandmother was a member of a golf club that needed a VIP to open the new £1m clubhouse. As there was no budget for the opening, Richard kindly agreed to fly in and perform the ribbon cut with her.
